Yard Sale Permit

If you are requesting a permit by mail, please return the application with the required fee. Fee schedule is below. Please DO NOT send cash through the mail. Make check or money order payable to Town of Ceredo. Mail to City Clerk, P.O. Box 691, Ceredo, WV 25507. Permits may also be made online at ceredowv.gov/pay. You may pay in cash or by any other listed means in person at City Hall located at the address listed at the top of this application. No refunds for licenses or permits. Allow two weeks for processing.

Fee Schedule

  • Day 1 – 1st Permit FREE
  • Day 2 – Each consecutive day $25.00 per day
  • Day 1 – 2nd Permit $100.00
  • Day 2+ $100.00 per day

755.01 DEFINITIONS. As used in this article:

(a) “Yard sales” means any sale of miscellaneous items sold from a yard, garage, porch or other like place by a person or persons not otherwise licensed to operate a store or act as a vendor in the Municipality.

(b) “License” means a printed license or permit issued by the Municipal Clerk authorizing or permitting a yard sale to be held within the corporate limits, whether free or requiring a fee.

(c) “Fee” means a twenty-five-dollar ($25.00) charge for the issuance of a license or permit to hold a yard sale. (Ord. 9-11-89)

755.02 PERMITS AND FEES.

(a) A license shall be required for a yard sale held in the Municipality and shall be posted for display in full view at the place and time of the sale. A license shall be for one day only and each additional sale or day of sale shall require a separate license. The first license or permit in any twelve-month period shall be issued without charge. Each subsequent or additional license shall be issued upon payment of the required fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00). (Ord. 9-11-89)

(b) For each subsequent rummage/garage sale the fee shall be one hundred dollars ($100.00) each sale and must be paid at City Hall in advance and a license obtained therefor. (Ord. 2-21-94)

755.03 USE OF MUNICIPAL PROPERTY.

No municipal property, street, alley, sidewalk, or other public property, shall be used in a yard sale for storing or displaying goods sold or to be sold in a yard sale. (Ord. 9-11-89)
